FREESTYLE JAZZ & COMMERCIAL DANCE

Freestyle dance developed in the early 80’s. Today backing dancers seen on television and shows will be dancing some form of freestyle dance, although the majority of these dancers will also have studied ballet and other dance forms. Our classes are energetic and fun and focus generally on current trends and styles in music and dance. As the students develop the classes are then based more on Commercial Dance, which can be ‘anything Commercial’. Medal tests are offered in this subject should you wish to take these or just come along, learn to dance, meet new friends, have fun and exercise.

STREET HIP HOP DANCE

Our Hip-Hop Street classes are extremely popular. Street dance covers a variety of ‘Street’ styles and we cover and develop a range of these in class. Medal tests are offered in this subject should you wish to take these or just come along, learn to dance, meet new friends, have fun and exercise.

Modern Jazz

Modern Jazz is a fun and exciting dance genre, hence its popularity. You will learn to develop many different movements reaching to a broad choice of varying rhythms and musical styles. Classes are structured to begin to prepare the physical strength and flexibility required to demonstrate emotion through interpretation of any musical genre and is a great introduction to contemporary dance. One minute you may be dancing to the rhythm of a drum, the next to a funky jazz style. You may explore contrast between expansion and relaxation or learn to isolate in a slick stylish mood. Modern Jazz follows a syllabus set by the IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association) and students have the opportunity to take graded examinations.

Musical Theatre

Our Musical Theatre classes are great fun. With a mixture of drama singing and dance the students work on pieces from musicals developing skills within the performing arts. These classes are particularly helpful in developing confidence. Our students are currently working towards a Christmas Showcase which will take place at the Victoria Hall Radstock. Our Musical Theatre Classes are taught by Lyndsey who had a career in the West End London Theatres performing in musicals.
